Opportunity Description

The Senior Buyer has the primary responsibility for the purchasing activities at the NJ location. These responsibilities include but are not limited to sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing raw materials and other necessary supplies for the production process.  This position will work hand in hand with the other Supply Chain members (Schedulers, CSR) and Production/Plant Managers.

Job Duties

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies to support the company’s goals and objectives.
  • Identify and evaluate potential suppliers.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with suppliers to achieve cost savings and favorable terms for the company
  • Identify and optimize common inventory items
  • Manage and evaluate ways to dispose of or sell obsolete items in inventory
  • Build a working relationship with other teams, including sales, shipping and purchasing
  • Audit facilities entire inventory on a regular basis and provide reports to management
  • Develop loss mitigation processes and protocols
  • File claims with manufacturers or sellers for defective goods found in inventory
  • Instruct others on how and where to return defective goods
  • Build and maintain good relationships with vendors as well with internal customers
  • Fully utilize ERP software system to drive production schedules, raw material procurement while achieving inventory turn expectations
  • Forecast future inventory requirements
  • Maintain min/max programs both in house and with distributors
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and maintaining personal networks
  • Review and approve all invoices and material purchase orders – organize and confirm delivery of goods and services
  • Perform all purchasing functions, including but not limited to creating Purchase orders, scoping out vendors, etc.
  • Assist Director of Purchasing with daily purchasing tasks
  • Perform related duties as assigned, within your scope of practice

Education

Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, or related field desired or equivalent experience

Experience & Skills Required

  • Five years of experience in Procurement or Supply Chain Management
  • Familiarity with coatings industry a plus
  • Familiarity with specialty chemical manufacturing a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills with a proven ability to create and maintain positive working relationships with vendors, suppliers, shippers, and customers
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Experience using ERP system E21 or similar
  • Able to work Overtime on occasion
