Opportunity Description

We are seeking a post-doc level Research Scientist with expertise in mass spectroscopy and proteomics.  The Research Scientist will join a tenured team of Scientists providing technical consultative support to internal and external researchers.  Primary responsibilities will include mass spectrometry based techniques for protein/peptide/small molecule chemistries to separate, characterize, profile, and quantify analytes from complex biological samples.

Job Duties

• Independently complete experimental design, method development, method optimization, data analysis and presentation of results.  Investigate and evaluate alternative instrumentation, methodologies and techniques. 

• Perform sample preparation and analysis techniques including:  protein extraction, protein precipitation, enzymatic digestion, LC/MS/MS analysis, and protein/nucleic acid synthesis

• Utilize proteomics software including Xcalibur, MASCOT, Proteome Discoverer, Progenesis QI, Scaffold PTM, Scaffold DIA, etc. for the analysis and interpretation of laboratory data to make scientific conclusions.

• Manage the daily lab activities, schedule instrumentation and supplies usage. 

• Participate in general department activities and administrative tasks including attending meetings, participate in research planning, report preparation, preparation of proposals/manuscripts, organize and maintain reagent/stock/chemical inventories, support billing and administrative tasks.  

 

Education

• Master’s Degree or PhD in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, or other related discipline and one year experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

 

Experience & Skills Required

• Thorough knowledge of MS (Mass Spectrometry), Electrospray Ionization Mass Spectroscopy, LC/MS/MS and separation techniques.

• Demonstrated knowledge of quantitative proteomics, protein chemistry and proteomics sample handling.

• Well developed interpersonal skills, high customer service drive, strong written and oral communication skills..

• Ability to prioritize work activities to meet deadlines and support or lead multiple projects.
