Opportunity Description

Our client, a large logistics and packaging company, is searching for a Senior Systems Engineer to join their growing team in Portland, OR! You will be responsible for continuously improving, designing and implementing the IT infrastructure that supports the global enterprise. The systems span 60+ remote locations, data centers, and cloud data centers. The position will work closely with a growing team of system and network admin/engineers on The Company’s innovative Cloud and Infrastructure team. 

*Currently will work remote but expected onsite full time in May 2021*

Job Duties

  • Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability by establishing performance baselines and then monitoring technical metrics that report the overall health of the infrastructure
  • Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers and/or analysts to implement those fixes
  • Implement and maintain system security and data assurance via security best practices, backup, and redundancy strategies
  • Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks
  • Create flowcharts, diagrams, and other documentation.
  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
  • Design, implement, and document Operating systems, physical and virtual servers, storage and backup within physical data centers, Azure, and AWS
  • Design, implement, and document Microsoft AD, Exchange, Skype for Business, Teams calling, Teams, O365, Solarwinds, and other products
  • Design, document, implement, and participate in the testing of disaster recovery procedures
  • Assist network engineer with designing and implementing LAN, WAN, and firewall projects
  • Document and create project plans and budgets
  • Proactively identify and report problems with IT infrastructure and work on solutions to resolve them
  • Work with business and IT application stakeholders and develop solutions to support their needs
  • Participate in resolving high priority incidents and outages
  • Act as point of escalation and overflow for IT administrator duties and responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and training to other team members
  • Perform occasional scheduled network maintenance on nights and weekends
  • Occasionally provide 24x7 on-call coverage as part of an on-call rotation

Experience & Skills Required


  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory components
  • 5+ years of experience administering Windows Servers
  • 5+ years of experience administering VMWare and/or Hyper-V
  • 1-2 years of managing and monitoring IaaS or PaaS in the public cloud
  • Demonstrated experience diagnosing and troubleshooting system problems in a complex and varied systems environment
  • Solid PowerShell scripting skills
  • Security experience is required


  • Familiarity with MS SQL 2008+ concepts, implementation, and administration
  • Experience working within an established project management framework
  • Experience administering Solarwinds
  • Experience administering CommVault
  • Experience administering Citrix XenApp
  • Experience administering Cisco USC
  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related subject
